We've been asked a fair few questions over the years and we wanted to share with you some straight forward myths and truths.
This isn't dental advice and should you have any questions about your dental care, please speak to your dentist.

Truth |
brushing your teeth with an electric toothbrush damages the enamel | An electric toothbrush should not damage your enamel but instead promote overall good oral health. Many of us are guilty of brushing too hard, which can, over time, cause irreversible damage to the enamel. |
brushing your teeth once a day is fine | Afraid not. To help protect your teeth you need to brush for at least two minutes, twice a day. |
I can use mouthwash instead of brushing |
To keep your whole mouth healthy you need to clean not only the surface enamel, you need to clean between teeth too. Using a mouthwash that contains fluoride can help prevent tooth decay, but it doesn't replace brushing to ensure food build-up and plaque are removed from your teeth. |
dentures don't need brushing |
They do. It's really important for teeth to be looked after at any age, as good oral health can have a huge impact on quality of life, particularly for older people. If you are caring for an older person, encourage them to brush twice a day and support them to brush if they need help. Dentures need to be looked after to ensure longevity and oral hygiene. |
rinsing your mouth with water is better for your teeth | We all use water to clean our teeth but swishing water in your mouth too soon after brushing washes away much of the fluoride with it and minimises your toothpaste's effectiveness. Wait at least 30 minutes after brushing before eating or drinking. |
